VGenner Brett Woods and MP Kate Ellis' Indian adventure in pictures

Kate Ellis (Federal MP & VGen Ambassador) spent her parliamentary holidays this year in India with World Vision and VGen star Brett Woods. Here Brett tells us in pictures about their amazing trip...
Laugh out loud
At all the World Vision projects Kate visited, she met strong, empowered, generous women who were committed to generating opportunities for their own children to ensure they were able to attend school, access healthcare and also just enjoy the crazyness of being kids. Three women we met had purchased sewing machines with a loan from World Vision and had set up their own business to bring money into the family - meaning their children no longer needed to work and were free to go to school.

Kick It Like This
As the Minister of Sport (and devoted crows supporter!), Kate had a ball showing children living in a remote town, in the foothills of the Himilayas, how to play AFL!
The kids loved it and gave the Aussies a run for their money with a few impressive speckies.
Kate gave the children footballs and soccer balls (Fairtrade of course!!!) so we should be seeing them in the draft in the next few years...

Traffic Light Beggars
Stopping at a busy intersection in Delhi, Kate was swamped by child beggars who were working on a dangerous road, in the hot Summer sun. In the distance, slouched comfortably in the shade was 'their master' who ensured the children continued working and he claimed all their takings after the long day.

Deepak
Minister for Youth meets the (future!) Indian Prime Minister!
World Vision has been working in Deepak's slum in Delhi to empower young people to stand up for their communities. Deepak is an inspirational teenager who wants to be a member of Parliament in the future to ensure he can lift living standards and opportunities for those living in slums like him.

We'll be talking more about Kate and Brett's trip soon. Check out our videos with Kate
